1966 Jaguar E Type 4.2L Series 1 FHC
Engine: 6 cylinder 4200cc
Gearbox: Manual 4 Speed
This Jaguar E type is being offered from a large collection of British classics, it's crown jewel so to speak. It's an original UK RHD drive example with matching numbers and heritage certificate. Here is a brief history of the car as put together by the current owner.
The E Type was bought brand new by Ronald Longmuir of Berkshire. Little is known about his ownership other than it was purchased next by a Dr Stanley of Rochester who passed to car onto his son Kevin after his death. In 1986 the car was purchased by Jaguar enthusiast Roy Honeybun, a man well known in the Jaguar community. Mr Honeybun already owned two fully restored Jaguar XK140s at this point and set about restoring the E Type the moment he got it. As he recalled the car was in a tired but very straight condition with no accident damage and great lines. By 1987 the restoration was in full flow with engine and gearbox removed and to be rebuilt with a lightened flywheel. The car was fully stripped back to bare metal and fitted replacement sills, resprayed in Jaguar Racing green and fully wax-oiled. The interior was fully retrimmed and carpets replaced by an ex Rolls Royce upholsterer. The restoration was finally completed by 1988 and the car was used at Enthusiast club rallies and race days alike. Mr Honeybun covered approximately 8000 miles in his tenure as owner over 16 years.
Chris Taylor and Paul Mullen of Mithril Racing LTD based at the Goodwood motor circuit approached Mr Honeybun through a contact at the JEC and a deal was struck to buy the car and by 2002 KJB88D found itself on an impressive fleet of cars used from demonstrations and cooperate days. While in their car over £50,000 was spent on maintaining the car including another engine rebuild, new clutch and gearbox syncros and about every consumable you could imagine. After Mithril racing was wound down in 2017 the current owner purchased the car directly from them and set about bringing the car up to the next level (To match the rest of the cars in his collection). The car was delivered to CL Classics based in Braintree and had the both rear inner wheel arches replaced along with the boot floor. It was then stripped, sanded and repainted in Jaguar Racing green. It was then reassembled with new rubbers and headlining.
This brings us to present day. I'd describe the car a the ultimate drivers car. The paint and panel fit are superb, the interior is just lightly patina'd and the chrome wire wheels look like they were first bolted on yesterday. The mighty 4.2L straight 6 engine fire easily into life and idles easily with an automatic cooling fan fitted for extra peace of mind on warm days. We know a thing or 2 about E Types here at Beaulieu Garage and can spot a good example with genuine investment potential when we see one- this is not a car to be missed.
