1973 MG Midget
Engine: 4 cylinder 1275cc
Gearbox: Manual 5 speed
We have this charming 1973 MG Midget Mk3 round wheel arch. First registered on the 13/ 3/ 1973 (50 next year!) the vehicle has been kept in tip top shape with well over £10, 000 worth of bills for restoration and servicing in its history file which stretches way back to the 80’s and contains 30+ old MOT certificates to boot (Including a new one just issued). Recently in 2010 the vehicle has been fitted with a fully recondition 1275cc engine courtesy of Mike Authers giving it a surprising amount of zip around town. In 2016 a reconditioned 5 speed type 9 gearbox was fitted which transforms the way the car drives. Gear changes are slick and precise and 5th gear is a great cruising gear for faster speeds- something the original 4 speed box really lacks. This is a great car for those longer journeys and club tours if you so wish to undertake them.
The underside is in remarkably good condition with no obvious welding or patches added. The body work while not pristine is very tidy and rust free, as is the chrome. The panel fit is absolutely first class. The doors in in particular shut cleanly with the lightest of pushes and are perfectly flush to the side of the car- almost unheard of in a midget! The roof is also nearly new and of the expensive mohair type not vinyl. The interior was replaced in 2000 with expensive leather seats and shows very little wear today.
Rarely do you see Mg Midgets in such good condition as this. It’s takes either a very expensive restoration (£20k+) or a life time of care to have one in this condition. These little gems are very much on the rise price wise so grab a good one before they get out of reach!
